The Shanghai Masters 2024 is in full swing, and the top-ranked players did not disappoint as they started their campaign in style.

Carlos Alcaraz vs. Shang Juncheng

Carlos Alcaraz began his Shanghai Masters in style, breezing past China's Shang Juncheng with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 victory. Alcaraz, with his rocket forehands, broke Shang early in the match and never looked back. The Spaniard's performance was enjoyed by the Chinese crowd, who were backing the home favourite.

Carlos Alcaraz admitted it was a bit of something to play players younger than him:

"I'm not used to playing against players younger than me," said the 21-year-old Alcaraz, two years Shang's elder. "He has been playing good tennis lately, lifting his first ATP [title in Chengdu], so I'm pretty sure he's going to climb the rankings. I'm just happy to to be able to win these kinds of matches."

Jannik Sinner vs. Taro Daniel

Last week’s China Open winner Jannik Sinner defeated Japan's Taro Daniel 6-1, 6-4 to advance to the third round. Sinner's accurate and decisive play were too much for Daniel to handle, and the Italian showed why he is the World No.1.

The Italian said: "I feel, I am in good shape mentally and physically that is so important to me. I will definetly improve in the upcoming games, but today I thought my movements were good and I was serving well”

The competition is heating up, and it's clear that the Shanghai Masters 2024 is living up to its reputation as one of the premier tennis events of the year.
