The Almaty open has reached its climax and we have our two finalists: Karen Khachanov and Gabriel Diallo. Here’s a brief summary on how they reached the final:

Khachanov's Gritty Performance Earns Final Spot

Russian tennis powerhouse Karen Khachanov clinched a thrilling win against Australia’s Aleksandar Vukic at the Almaty Open, securing his place in the final. The match was a nail-biter, with Khachanov overcoming a setback in the first set tiebreaker to triumph with scores of 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-4 at Almaty Arena. Ranked 26th, Khachanov's road to the final saw victories over Finn Otto Virtanen and Kazakh wildcard Beibit Zhukayev.

Vukic, standing at No. 85, had an impressive journey, besting James Duckworth, No. 8 seed Adrian Mannarino, and top seed Frances Tiafoe. Despite his stellar run, Vukic couldn’t outlast Khachanov’s tenacity.

Diallo’s Breakthrough Moment

Canadian talent Gabriel Diallo reached a significant milestone at the Almaty Open. Diallo cruised past Francisco Cerundolo with a 6-4, 6-2 victory, marking his debut in an ATP Tour championship final. This victory not only secured his spot in the final but also guaranteed his entry into the Top 100 of the PIF ATP Rankings come Monday.

Diallo’s post-match emotions were cleary visible for everyone to see:

“A lot of joy, a lot of excitement. A lot of relief as well. I’ve been playing some good tennis and I’m very happy to see that the results are going my way. It means the world to me, especially here. I’ve got family members here that I’ve never met before, so obviously it’s pretty cool that they came and I’m having a great week here. I’m extremely happy.”

The 23-year-old, previously untested at ATP Tour quarter-finals, delivered an impeccable performance by converting all three break points against Cerundolo. His Almaty run has propelled him 31 spots to No. 87 in the live rankings.
