China Open 2024 Heats Up: Alcaraz, Medvedev, Gauff Advance

The China Open 2024 is heating up as top tennis stars Carlos Alcaraz, Daniil Medvedev, and Coco Gauff advanced to the next rounds, showcasing their prowess on the court.

Alcaraz Takes Down Perricard’s Power

Carlos Alcaraz, ranked No. 3 in the world, faced a real test against upstart Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, whose 140 mph serves were no joke. But Alcaraz, as expected, didn’t flinch—he broke Perricard’s serve early in both sets, taking the match 6-4, 6-4. When asked about his game plan, Alcaraz said, "I just wanted to get as many returns in as possible. It wasn’t easy. He’s got a big serve, big shots from the baseline. I had to stay super focused."

Medvedev Cruises Past Monfils

Meanwhile, Daniil Medvedev made it look pretty smooth against veteran Gael Monfils, winning 6-3, 6-4. Medvedev’s steady, tactical play was too much for Monfils to handle. After finishing as runner-up in Beijing last year, Medvedev clearly has his sights set on the title this time.

Gauff’s Momentum Keeps Going

Coco Gauff is on fire right now. She took down Clara Burel 7-5, 6-3, even saving a set point in the first set to pull off the win. Gauff, who recently split from coach Brad Gilbert after winning her first Grand Slam, seems unfazed by the changes and remains laser-focused. She’s got Britain’s Katie Boulter next, and it looks like she’s in it for a deep run.

More Big Matches

The action didn’t stop there. Roman Safiullin, who wasn’t even supposed to make it past qualifying, stunned three-time major champ Stan Wawrinka with a 6-3, 6-4 win. On the women’s side, Jessica Pegula and Naomi Osaka both moved on to the next round, while Chinese wildcard Zhang Shuai pulled off an upset against sixth-seeded Emma Navarro, winning 6-4, 6-2.

The China Open is gaining momentum, and if the early matches are anything to go by, we’re in for one wild tournament!
